چکیده

To enhance fish general health, feeds can be supplemented with health-promoting additives, reducing the need to use chemotherapeutics. Incorporation of marine algae biomasses in aquafeeds has been shown improve immune status by enhancing innate response. This study evaluated effects Phaeodactylum tricornutum incorporation feed two different processes, either as freeze-dried biomass or broken cell wall biomass, on health and performance. Triplicate groups gilthead seabream juveniles (13.3 ± 0.3 g) were fed a control diet (CTRL) an extreme (i.e., 0% fishmeal), nutritionally balanced, formulation, experimental diets formulated CTRL 1% inclusion microalga P. at expense wheat meal: BC contains cells WC microalgae whole cells. After 2 12 weeks feeding, blood was collected for hematological procedures, whereas plasma mucus sampled parameters. Head-kidney, liver, white skeletal muscle also gene expression measurements. No major differences observed nor humoral parameters after irrespective dietary treatment. Arrays 29–31 genes analyzed tissues, revealing early effect (2 weeks) tissue-specific pattern. In found GH/IGF axis there late downregulation myostatin (mstn) gene, mainly due diet, even though all had similar growth Regarding head-kidney, led alpha-2-macroglobulin (a2m) upregulation. Also, same treatment showed increased alternative complement pathway bactericidal activity weeks, respectively. Hence, it seems that potential stimulatory might relevant prophylactic measure before predictable stressful event.

Environmental Conditioning of Skeletal Anomalies Typology and Frequency in Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata L., 1758) Juveniles

In this paper, 981 reared juveniles of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) were analysed, 721 of which were from a commercial hatchery located in Northern Italy (Venice, Italy) and 260 from the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (Crete, Greece). These individuals were from 4 different egg batches, for a total of 10 different lots. Each egg batch was split into two lots after hatching, and reared...

Self-selection of diets with different oil oxidation levels in gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)

The present research looked at the ability of gilthead seabream to discriminate between two similar diets differing only in the extent of lipid oxidation. Six groups of 4 fish (254g initial wet weight) were allowed to select by means of self-feeders between two complete diets (34.5% casein + gelatin, 14.8% fish oil + soybean oil, 24.8% dextrin and 25.9% vitamins, minerals, filler and binder) wh...

Zn, Cu, Pyruvate Kinase and Myosin in White Muscle of Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata) Fed A Zn Enriched Diet

Two groups of young gilthead sea bream were fed two different diets: a control diet containing Zn at 120 mg/kg feed and a supplemented diet containing Zn at 240 mg/kg feed. White portions of lateral muscle were analyzed for Zn and Cu concentrations, myofibrillar composition and pyruvate kinase (PK) activity in order to determine the influence of Zn on these biochemical parameters during the gro...

Feeding time synchronises daily rhythms of behaviour and digestive physiology in Gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)

Feeding cycles entrain biological rhythms, which enabling animals to anticipate feeding times and so maximize food utilization. In this article the effect of mealtime on locomotor activity, blood glucose, gastric pH and digestive enzymes was studied in two groups of seabream (Sparus aurata): one group received a single daily meal at random times either during the light and the dark period (rand...
